Live God's Word

Every Girl’s Story

Posted by Lydia

I’ve never liked sharing my testimony…not because I don’t like telling others about what God has done for me, but because I feel like my testimony is boring.  I was raised in a Christian home and saved when I was six.  That’s hardly a dramatic conversion.  Why would anyone want to listen to my story?  I’ve come to realize, however, that although the circumstances are different for each person, our story is all the same.

We can read our story in Ephesians 2:1-10 (CSB):

1And you were dead in your trespasses and sins in which you previously lived according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit now working in the disobedient. We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also. But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us,made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace! He also raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might display the immeasurable riches of his grace through his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift— not from works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.

Each of our stories starts with a girl who was following the ways of the world.  This girl was being led by Satan, doing whatever she wanted.  She was spiritually dead, facing God’s wrath for her sin.  That’s a pretty grim picture.  This was your story before you came to Christ.  In fact, if you do not know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, this is still your story.  Fortunately, the story does not end here.

God loved this girl, in spite of her disobedience.  He loved her so much that He chose to show her mercy and spare her from the punishment she deserved.  Someone had to pay the penalty for her sin, however, because God is just.  So God did something unthinkable.  He sent His own Son, Jesus Christ, who was Himself sinless, to die in this girl’s place.  Fortunately, this is not the end of the story, either.

Jesus rose from the dead, having paid the price for the girl’s sin.  God was no longer angry with her.  While she was still dead in her sin, God brought her new life, saving her by his amazing grace.  More than that, instead of the wrath she deserved, He poured out His kindness upon her through Christ.

This girl did nothing to deserve God’s mercy and love.   She never could have earned it.   God chose to save her simply because He loved her and wanted to give her this marvelous gift.  God does have a plan for the girl, though.  She is His masterpiece, designed by Him to do good works.  She knows she can never repay God for His gift of salvation, but out of gratitude, she gives Him her life.  Her only desire is to glorify God through her obedience to His Word.  She serves Him joyfully.

Do you see yourself in this story?  Are you the girl still living in sin, following the ways of the world, facing God’s wrath?  If so, and you want more information about how to change your story, please message me.  I would love to share more with you about how to be saved.

Are you the girl who has been saved by God’s mercy and love?  If so, praise God!  No matter how we came to know Christ, we can all rejoice in the fact that we are no longer children of wrath, but children of God.  Our backgrounds may be different, but we are now sisters in Christ.  May our lives reflect our gratitude for this precious gift.
